- Start on ASIS
- move to AIIS
- Flex hip
- Palpate distally to its attachment at tibial tuberosity

- Put your person in external rotation
- have person extend leg
- start on tibial tuberosity
- Palpate superiorly to where you lose it under rectus femoris
how do you palpate Vastus lateralis
- Put your person in medial rotation
- have person extend leg
- start on greater trochanter

- extend hip
- move distally onto head of fibula

- extend hip
- air palpate diagonally towards attachment onto coccyx, sacrum and posterior iliac crest

- start on greater trochanter
- have person abduct
- palpate proximally until iliac crest
how do you palpate gracilis
- have person find adductor tendon at crease of thigh
- have person adduct
- palpate distally until knee

- move distally to middle of thigh

- have person resist you pulling their ankle to find hamstrings
- roll off hamstring medially
- have person adduct

- move posteriorly onto iliac crest

- move posteriorly onto tibial tubercle

- press against hand
- palpate distally until pes anserine tendon

- locate greater trochanter
- flex knee for external rotation
- don’t let person pull hand
- air palpate diagonally onto sacrum

- locate greater ischial tuberosity
- palpate laterally to greater trochanter
how do you palpate iliacus
- start on ASIS
- move posteriorly onto illiac crest
- bend knee
- roll medially into illiac fossa
- take deep breaths
- sink in on breath out
- press knee into hand

- locate ASIS
- form finger into M shape
- have person crunch to get off rectus andominis
- take deep breaths
- sink in on breath out diagonally
- press knee into hand

- start on PSIS
- move anteriorly along iliac crest until you reach boney protuberance which is your ASIS

- start on AIIS
- move superiorly onto ASIS
- move superiorly onto illiac crest
what is the trail for the iliac fossa
- start on ASIS
- move posteriorly onto iliac crest
- move medially into iliac fossa
what is the trail for the Ischial tuberosity
- start on ilium
- move distally to greater trochanter
- palpate medially into gluteal crease and apply pressure superiorly
what is the trail for the AIIS
- start on iliac crest
- move anteriorly to ASIS
- move inferiorly and medially 1/2 and inch to arrive on ASIS
what is the trail for the greater trochanter
- start on the middle of iliac crest
- move inferiorly through the ilium until we feel round bone
what is the trail for the gluteal tuberosity
- start on ilium
- move inferiorly to greater trochanter
- palpate distally then roll medially onto posterior side of femur
