A

It was decided that voting would be by estate, not by head (one vote per estate) First and second estate, who had similar interests, would always be able to outvote the third estate.

Descibe the events of the Tennis court oath (20 June 1789)

A

20 June, deputies of Third Estate arrived at locked palace doors. Stated palace was shut for preperations of the Seance Royale which was in 3 days. To the deputies this looked like Louis was trying to keep them from assembling. They went to a tennis court, under leadership of Mirabeau deputies swore a collective oath. Statement was publically made France was going to have a new constitution with or without Kings permission.

Explain the reasons for the Storming of the Bastille.

A

Louis ordered troops to be moved into Paris and Versailles, this caused great alarm. Anger was already present due to bread prices, this heightned when on 11 july 1789, Louis dismissed Necker due to his sympathies toward the Third Estate. Radical speakers such as D’orleans and Desmoulins convinced the people to turn to violence.

A

General De Launay, when he ordered his troops to fire on crowd, the bastille was stormed and his head was put onto a pike and he was paraded around the streets.

What were the events of the October days (Woman march on Versailles)

A

6000-7000 led largely by women, many armed with sticks and knives, marched to versailles. They broke into the palace, killing a number of royal guards. Marie A and Louis were saved by the arrival of Lafayette’s National guard.

What were the results of the october days, and consequences towrads Louis’ position

A

October days forced the royal family to give up their residence in Versailles. Some deputies of the Assembly feared for their safety from the mob. Therefore 56 monarchist deputies refused to attend the Assembly, giving up their posisiton, this was damaging to Louis.
