Every time that you connect to the internet, you are using online services.
If you are passing information to other people or exchanging information with them, then you are using online communications.
How can you use online services?
Online services and online communications can be used on any type of equipment: desktop computer, laptop, palmtop, mobile telephone or tablet
What is a user profile?
Online biography of one person describing their habits or hobbies as well as DOB, name, address etc
What is Network of friends?
Group of friends online (friends you have on Facebook, twitter etc)
What is Online community?
Community of people online (talking on blogs, online chat groups)
What is Virtual world?
The world of the online community (i.e. not the real world such as SIMS)
What is Chat?
Communicating in real time online
What is Chartroom?
A virtual setting where groups of people can communicate in real time
What is Netiquette?
Online etiquette (e.g. being aware of other people’s feelings)
How can people communicate online?

What is Electronic mail (e-mail)?
send a message to another person or persons online
What is Instant messaging (chat)?
send short messages to another person for real time chat
What is a Newsgroup?
a site where groups of people can read and write information of common interest
What is Social networking?
sites where you can meet and interact with people all over the world
What is Conferencing?
groups of people in different areas/countries meeting together online to discuss matters (e.g. business conference, Google hangout)
What is Blogs?
online journals of individuals or groups where you can write messages to another group/people online
What is Vlogs?
similar to blogs but with video (perhaps on YouTube)
What are the benefit of communicating online?
Instant responses to someone who is remote from you, at no additional cost to your broadband fees.
