Data Exchange Flashcards
What communication does Simplex provide?
Simplex- This service provides one-way communication. Such as a satellite signal
What is Half Duplex transmission?
Half duplex- The transmission of data in only one direction at any given time. Most speakerphones arehalf-duplexand only allow one way communication.
What s Full Duplex Transmission?
Full duplex transmission- The transmission of data in two directions simultaneously. Telephones arefull-duplex devices.
What Hardware and Software are required for Video chat- Skype?
Hardware- computer with a monitor, internet, web camera
Software- Skype software to support chatting features and sending video link etc.
What is the role of a coder and decoder?
CODER- will make the file smaller so it does not take up a lot of space (video and audio files) (online film in MP4 format)
DECODER- breaks down (decompresses) the video/audio so the programs supported can view them (MP4 video played by windows media player after decoding)
What type of transmission methods are there?
fibre optics,wireless, infrared, microwave, satellite.
What are the characteristics of Fibre Optics?
Fibre Optics-
Glass or plastic cables that use total internal reflection of light to transmit data.
Super fast broadband with 20mbps and above.
What are the characteristics of wireless?
Wireless-
radio waves and infrared communications are used.
All devices using the network needs to be wireless for communication to take place.
What are the characteristics of infrared?
Infrared-
short range data transmissions using infrared light.
4mbps data transfer rate and up to 100m in range.
What are the characteristics of microwave?
Microwave-
short wavelength radio transmissions working at high frequencies.
300gbps in transfer rate and up to 100m in range.
What are the characteristics of satellite?
Satellite- high frequency signals, data is transmitted from earth to a satellite which relays it to the relevant receiving station back on earth.
Huge maximum data transfer.
