how to rule out spinal injury
- when you approach block head
- ask questions(wheres pain)
- wiggle toes/ fingers
- Any tingling/numbness call 911
- palpate muscles of cervical spine
how to rule out head injuries
- Ask athlete what happened/ any MOI
2. Ask athlete if their dizzy, nauseous, headache
How to rule out fractures/ dislocations
fractures- tap test (on either side of bone)
- compression test (squeeze parallel bones together)
Dislocation- observe for abnormality ( use uninjured)
- fee for abnormality
On field history
- brief
- location of pain, peripheral symptoms, MOI
- has it happened before
on field observation
look for gross deformities, shock skin color, compare both sides
On field palpation
where u many find possible fractures/dislocations not visible
-palpate length of bone
palpate muscle to look for deficits
On field special tests
Active ROM Functional tests(weight bearing)
What is needed for rtp
80% strength
100% ROM
