Cervical Spine Injury Flashcards
1
Q
MOI of cervical spine injury
A
Axial loading + cervical flexion/ extension
compressive forces create buckling effect in cervical spine
spinal cord experiences transient changes in height/diameter which eliminates space surrounding spinal cord
2
Q
What is Hangmans Fracture and MOI
A
Fracture of the pars interticularis on pedicle of C2
MOI: extreme hyperextension of neck
3
Q
What are some Red Flags for a spinal injury

- unconcious/ altered lvl of conciousness
- bilateral lvl of concouisness
- significant midline spine pain
- obvious deformity
4
Q
Steps to rule out spinal injury

- Where is pain/what happened/ any tingling
- wiggle toes/ fingers
- Palpate muscles/bony prominences
if numb/tingling call 911/stabalize head
