Why did Cromwell come to Ireland?
To punish catholics for committing horrible cruelties as he was puritan, he believed it was his duty to punish.

Set Catholic Churches including st. Peters church alight (some soldiers + catholics were hiding inside).

Attending mass forbidden + made sure businesses open as usual
Confiscated Christmas decorations
Banned dancing around may poles
Closed pubs + theatres as he saw them as pointless enjoyment
Shut down parliament to rule by himself

Kicked out all MPs that supported Charles I

Cromwell tried to get rid of all corrupt MPs in parliament, by bringing in 30 soldiers into the house of commons
How did cromwells time in power change Ireland?
‘Act of settlement’= if you couldn’t prove you supported parliament during English civil war, you lost part of your land.
‘Down survey’= how Cromwell found how much land there was in Ireland. Contained modern maps of Ireland.
