A

When Henry wanted a divorce from his first wife, Catherine of Aragon.
Pope would not give a divorce.
Henry’s reaction to this was to set up the Church of England + no longer be a Roman Catholic country.
This started the English reformation.

It shut down nasty monasteries
Introduced English bible into every church

A

Henry was a devout Catholic for most of his life. He never became Protestant even though he was a major reformer. The starting of reformation might’ve been more about politics, wealth + family dynamics for Henry.
