What is Epinephrine?
Vasoconstrictor.
What are the 3 strengths of Epinephrine?
1) 1:50,000
2) 1:100,000
3) 1:200,000
THE LOWER THE SECOND NUMBER THE MORE CONCENTRATED (stronger)
Who wouldn’t be able to use Epinephrine and local anesthetics and why?
Heart conditions such as unstable angina, MI, bypass, severe hypertension, heart failure
Vasoconstrictors can also react with other drugs
What is Epinephrines use?
Prolongs effect of anesthetic by decreasing blood flow to the area
Causes tissue to turn white as it’s being injected
Decreases bleeding during surgical procedures
How long does temp and perm paresthesia last?
Temp - lasts up to 8 months
Permanent - after a year
What is topical anesthetic and it’s purpose?
Temp numbness on surface of oral mucosa
Purpose is to provide a numbing effect in an area where an injection will take place
Difference between induction and duration?
Induction - length of time the anesthetic takes to effect
Duration - length of time from induction until reversal process is complete
Golden rule?
If scalpel is need/used

Difference between wood and plastic wedges?
Are they interchangeable why, why not?
Wood - amalgams
Plastic - composites
They are placed in tooth and used to have matrix band contour itself better against natural tooth
Wood wedges are much stronger
