Q

A winch may be used on an off road machine. Identify one precaution you must take to prevent serious personal injury when a winch wire rope is under tension.

A

Keep clear of the winch wire rope whenever it is under tension. The wire rope could whip around quite violently if it suddenly broke. Objects and debris attached to the wire rope could fly in unexpected directions.

Q

Identify some precautions you must observe when removing/replacing wire rope on a winch.

A

Always wear gloves to protect your hands and fingers from the sharp wire strands. Uncoil the new wire rope so that kinks do not form in the new wire rope. Attach the wire rope securely to the winch. Wind the wire rope on the winch in the same direction as the original Coil and tie the used wire rope so it is easier and safer to transport to the recycling center.
