How does oesophageal adenocarcinoma form?
in the glandular cells which make mucus, due to exposure to stomach acid
What are the symptoms of oesophageal cancer?
- trouble swallowing
- reflux (GERD)
- mucus and blood
What is stage 3 adenocarcinoma?
cancer that has spread from the oesophagus to lymph nodes and nearby tissues and adventita
What is the prognosis of stage 3 adenocarcinoma?
If chemo and radiation is successful, there is a 3-5 year survival rate of 20-30%
What are the treatment options following the biomarkers?
HER2POS - HER2 therapy, trastuzumab
PD-L1 neg - immunotherapy invalid
How does chemo work in adenocarcinoma?
destroys the cancer cells so they cannot grow or reproduce
How does radiation work in adenocarcinoma?
reduces tumour size before surgery
