Odontogenic Cysts & Tumors Flashcards

Q
Dentigerous Cyst

radio 5
diff dx 2
transform 3
A
- Most common development cyst
- Most commonly seen with 3rd molars and max canines
- Radio app
- Must be with unerupted teeth
-
RL area around the crown of the tooth, attached at the CEJ
- RL area must be > 2mm, otherwise its a normal follicle
- Any size can be uniocular or multiocular
- Can push teeth
- Top diff dx: odontogenic keratocyst, unicystic ameloblastoma
- Epithelium may transform to ameloblastoma, SCC, mucoepidermoid carcinoma
2
Q
Lateral Periodontal Cyst
considered a
location
tooth
A
- True cyst
- 75% in premolar-canine area
- Teeth can be vital or non vital
3
Q
Odontogenic Keratocyst
common
mimics
app 4
assoc
A
- Common cyst with high recurrence rate
- Can look like anything, mimics other cysts/tumors
- uniocular or multiocular
- Pericoronal, apical, or lateral position
- Small or large
- BUT only in odontogenic area
- Associated with Gorlins Syndrome (nevoid basal cell carcinoma syndrome)
4
Q
Calcifying Odontogenic Cyst
radio app 2
histo
A
- Only cyst that may be mixed RL-RO (odontogenic tumors can also be mixed)
- May also be totally RL
- Has ghost cells histologically
5
Q
Ameloblastoma
most common
age
radio 4
location
A
- Most common true odontogenic tumor
- Age 20-40
- Radio
- Always RL
- Classic soap bubble app
- Causes expansion
- May be uniocular (unicystic ameloblastoma)
- Most common location is post mand
6
Q
Ameloblastic Fibroma
Ameloblastic Fibro-odontoma
A
- Age <20
- Post mand most common
- Precursors to odontoma
- Radio
- AF= completely RL
- AFO= mixed RL/RO
7
Q
Odontoma
develops
Radio
2 kinds
A
- Develops first 2 decades of life
- RO area surrounded by RL rim, surrounded by thin RO line
- Compund: Identifiable toothlets, usually in ant max
- Complex: large unidentifiable mass, post mand
8
Q
Adenomatoid Odontogenic Tumor
demo 2
location 2
radio
A
- 2/3 tumor
- 2/3 teens
- 2/3 females
- 2/3 ant jaw
- 2/3 max
- often with unerupted tooth
- May be RL or mixed
- Mixed RL with snow flake calcifications
9
Q
Odontogenic Myxoma
demo
radio 3
A
- Younger patients < 30
- Radio- resembles ameloblastoma
- Honeycomb or tennis racket app
- Septations at 90 degrees to one another
