obsessions- persistent unwanted thoughts
compulsions- tasks people do to relieve themselves of obsessions
onset of ocd
late teens and early twenties, 25% male sufferers before age of 10 but symptoms dec gradually
prevalence of ocd
1.1 and 1.8 of the population, common in female adults, in children it’s more common in males
prognosis of ocd
70% chronic lifelong course and 5% episodic symptoms sasson et al 2% of people have ocd worldwide

family history and stressful life events
