Explain procedure for stripping body?
PRELIM SPEARS
Pathologist must be present (when body stripped)
Remove body from bag (with minimal disturbance)
Exhibit body bag & sheet
Label and seize clothing
Inventory items seized
Maintain security of body/exhibits
Seal and package each exhibit separately
Photography
Ensure no cross-contamination
Assist mortuary staff to transport body to exam room
Remove and search clothing
Sieve over drain to collect trace evidence
What must you do before moving the body?
Sketch and photograph position of body Ensure clothing not contaminated Get approval from OC INV before moving Seize everything as an exhibit Cover hands/feet/head with paper bag. Consider health risks Mark and measure body position Record position of limbs, appearance, injuries, clothing and direct of blood trail Wrap body in plastic sheet and place in body bag Arrange undertaker Search under body
When recording position of body what should you consider?
Position of limbs Appearance Wounds and injuries Direction and trail of blood Lividity Rigor mortus
What is the purpose of a PM?
PENDDD
Provide areas of interest for investigation
Establish how injuries contributed to death
Negate possible defences
Determine nature and size of weapon
Determine height and stature of suspect
Determine mode and time of death
