Observational Techniques Flashcards
What is the observational method? (AO1)
An observational method involves systematically watching and recording naturally occuring behaviour meaning there is not attempt of manipulating variables.
What are the main types of observation? (AO1)
Controlled and Naturalistic observation
What is a Controlled observation? (AO1)
An observation in which the research attempts to control the variables in order to establish any change in behaviour.
What is a Naturalistic observation? (AO1)
A naturalistic observation is an observation in which the researcher observers naturally occuring behaviour.
What is a Participant observation? (AO1)
A observation where it involves the research actually joining in the group or taking part in the situation they are studying.
What is a Non-participant observation? (AO1)
A observation where the observer does not take part or play a role in the group observerd.
What is a Covert observation? (AO1)
A observation in which the p’s are not aware that they are being observed.
What is an Overt observation/ (AO1)
An observation in which the p’s are aware that they are being observered/
