Observational design Flashcards
1
Q
Unstructured + EVALUATE
A
- unstructured = a continuous recording where the researcher writes everything they have observed
- S = more richness of detail gathered
- L = produce more qualititative data which is hard to analysis
- greater risk of observer bias
2
Q
Structured
A
- the researcher quantifies what they are observing in a pre determind list
- S = easier
- produces quantitative data which is easy to analyse
L = - not as depthful detail
3
Q
what are behavioural categories
A
- target behaviour is broken down into more precise components
4
Q
Time sampling
A
- recording behaviour within a timeframe
- S = reduces number of observations, easier
L = may be unrepresentative
5
Q
Event sampling
A
- counting how many times a behaviour is carried out
S = good for infrequent behaviour
L = difficult to judge when a behaviour occurs,important behaviour may be missed
