How do you sign combinations of hours and minutes?
From combination of hour and minute, sign the number for the hour, then slightly to the right of that sign the number for minutes

- Lurent Clerc, a Deaf teacher from Paris came to the US to help Thomas H Gallaudet, a hearing American, start Americas first school for the Deaf in Hartford, Connecticut. Clerc brought from the Paris school a highly effective teaching method using ASL
1864
-The first university for the Deaf, now called Gallaudet University, was established by a charter signed by President Lincoln.
1880
- The International Congress on Education of the Deaf in Milan, Italy banned the use of ASL in teaching Deaf children. ASL was no longer permitted in the classroom, only the “Oral Method”
Also, NAD was founded in Cincinnati, Ohio. This organization brought Deaf people together from around the country to share their common interest and fight discrimination.
1900-1960
- “Dark Ages” for the Deaf. But what helped in the times of the Dark Ages was Local Clubs provided a place where Deaf people could socialize and share news and other events going on. Just staying connected with other Deaf people
1901
- The National Fraternity Society of the Deaf (NFSD) was formed to provide insurance to Deaf people.
1964
Teletypewriters for the Deaf (TTYs) were invented by a Deaf man, and later TV too became accessible to Deaf people
1965
THe first linguistic study of ASL was published by William Stoke at Gallaudet
1966
-NAD fought for the right of a Deaf couple in California to adopt a foster child after the court had said it wouldn’t have a normal home environment with Deaf parents, but the Deaf people won.
1967
-The National Theatre of the Deaf first toured, spreading awareness and appreciation of ASL throughout the world.
1976
- The civil acts right for disabled people was singed into law, and any institution receiving federal funds be accessible to all disabled people
1979
- The movie Voice was produced featuring a hearing person in the role of a Deaf performer and the Deaf boycotted and got the distributor to withdraw the film from the market.
1988
“Deaf President Now” rally at Gallaudet. Board of trustees elected Elizabeth Zinser, she wasn’t Deaf and the students wen ton Strike until the board re-elected a president, I. King Jordan, a psychology Professor at Gallaudet and he was Deaf.
