What is Proptosis (Exophthalmos)?
A
It is the protrusion of the eyeball.

What is Proptosis caused by?
A
Commonly caused by Graves disease which causes edema and lumphoid inflitration of the orbital tissue.

What are signs of Proptosis?
A
Eyelid retraction, eyelid lag, temporal flare of the upper lid and staring.
Eyelid erythema and conjunctivial hyperemia

Symptoms of Proptosis
A
Prolonged expsure of larger than usual areas of the eyeball to air cause corneal drying and can lead to infection and ulceration
