These are the four sources of data to have an accurate definition of the client’s problem
- primary source;
- secondary source;
- existing data; and
- worker’s own observation
The initial contact between the client and the worker may come about in different ways:
- The client initiates contact;
- The client is referred to the worker or agency by some interested or concerned party;
- The agency, through the social worker, reaches out to the (potential) client and offers help.
It is the process by which a potential client achieves the status of a client.
