The initial contact between the client and the worker may come about in different ways:
- The client initiates contact;
- The client is referred to the worker or agency by some interested or concerned party;
- The agency, through the social worker, reaches out to the (potential) client and offers help.
It is the process by which a potential client achieves the status of a client.
intake
It is a problem that is a threat to the client’s or other’s welfare, and usually stated or presented as it is being perceived or experienced.
presenting problem
It is a process of separating from so many problems identified by the client and/or worker the specific problem or problems which are to be addressed first, and therefore will be the focus of the helping relationship.
partialization
A problem taking precedence over other problems because of its importance.
prioritization
It is the link between Assessment and Intervention.

They are the desired or expected outcomes of an endeavor. They are the final, overall, or long-range results to which efforts are directed.
Goals
Characteristics of goals

- feasible
These consist of the specific actions or steps to be undertaken in order to reach the goals.
Plans
Systems that are the focus of the change activity.
Units of Attention
An overall approach to change a situation. It implies orchestrated action that involves different entities, each having a role to play in order to achieve the defined goals.

Factors that Influence an Intervention Plan
