IV benpen 3g at onset of labour and 1.5G 4 hourly until delivery
Mode of delivery for mother’s with HIV
Viral load at 36 w
< 50 copies/mL vaginal
> 50 copies/mL or hep C - c section with intrapartum IV zidovudine at 38 weeks
Newborn from HIV+ve mother Mx
Treat with ART within 4 hours
Low risk : zidovudine monotherapy 2-4w
High risk: triple ART (zidovudine. Lamivudine, nevirapine) for 4 weeks
Direct viral amplification by PCR to confirm or deny infection
