endoscopy to evacuate the damage to esophageal mucosa
ambulatory 12-36hr monitoring esophageal pH to evaluate degree of acid reflux
management of GERD
avoid situations that decrease lower esophageal sphincter pressure or cause esophageal irritation
low fat diet
avoid caffeine, tobacco, beer, milk, food with peppermint
maintain body weight
avoid tight clothes
elevate head and upper body
