unknown!
- combination of genetic and environmental
- higher incidence of those who smoke, and drinks
- UNCONTROLLED DIABETES
- anti seizure/anticonvulsant medications AND accurate

- Persistent feeding
- Taping
Nursing interventions for cleft palate
- monitor weight gain
(consider clothing and time of weighing) - monitor growth and development
(assess milestones)
What is a NAM device

Surgeries for cleft palate
- cleft lip repair (10 weeks)
- cleft palate repair (6-12 months before speech development)
- pharyngoplasty flap procedure
- alveolar bone graft: 8-10y
When can a normal diet be continuously reintroduced after surgery?
Once bowel sounds are present
