Hx and physical Allergy, hx of MI or CAD, HTN Hepatic or renal dysfunction Orientation, affect, reflexes Labs Vitals and ECG
Nursing Diagnosis
Acute pain r/t CV and vasoconstrictive effects
Decreased cardiac output r/t CV effects
Disturbed sensory perception r/t CNS effects
Risk for injury r/t changes in peripheral sensations CNS effects
Deficient knowledge regarding drug therapy
implementation
Administrate drug to relieve acute migraine not for prevention
Administrate at first sign of migraine DO NOT WAIT!
Arrange for safety precautions if CNS or visual changes occur
Provide comfort and safety measures (control triggers)
Monitor BP of pt with hx of CAD, discontinue if any sign of angina or prolonged hypertension
Patient teaching
ADE When to seek help -angina or high blood pressure Follow up appts Safety for CNS effects Safety for migraines -vision changes -aura
Evaluation
Pt response to drug- relief of acute migraine
Monitor CV changes, arrhythmias, HTN, CNS changes
