"Nursing" bingo card Flashcards
Multiple sclerosis
an inflammatory disease in which the insulating covers of nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord are damaged. The damage disrupts the ability of parts of the nervous system to communicate, resulting in a wide range of signs and symptoms, including physical, mental and psychiatric problems
pneumonia
a common lung infection caused by bacteria, a virus or fungi.
CML
Chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) is a cancer that starts inside the bone marrow. CML causes an uncontrolled growth of immature cells that make a certain type of white blood cell called myeloid cells
Parkinson’s Disease
A disorder of the brain that leads to tremors and difficulty with walking, movement and coordination. It is a degenerative disorder of the CNS.
Left CHF
The left side of the heart receives blood rich in oxygen from the lungs and pumps in to the remainder of the body. As the ability to pump blood forward from the left side of the heart is decreased, the remainder of the body does not receive enough oxygen, especially when exercising. This results in fatigue
respiratory acidosis
A medical emergency in which decreased ventilation causes increased blood carbon dioxide concentration and decreased pH.
Macrocytic anemia
blood disorder where the red blood cells are larger than normal but have low levels of haemoglobin which is needed to carry oxygen throughout the body. The condition usually results from a deficiency of Vitamin B12
HIV/AIDS
Viral infection transmitted via blood and other body fluids. affects the ability of the immune system to fight infection - four stages of infection - stage 1 acute infection - stage 2 - latency - stage 3 - AIDS - stage 4 - HIV infection stage unknown
Glaucoma
Group of ocular conditions characterized by optic nerve damage, which can be caused by increased intraocular pressure.
Guillanin - Barre Syndrome
acute autoimmune attack o the peripheral nerve and some cranial nerve myelin. usually preceded by an infection. presents with ascending weakness, that progresses to paralysis, leading to acute respiratory failure.
Pneumothorax
collection of air or gas in the chest or pleural space that causes part of all of a lung to collapse due to a loss of negative pressure - place in high fowlers, admin oxygen
SLE (Systemic Lupus Erythematosus
A chronic inflammatory disease that occurs when the body’s immune system attacks the tissues and organs. Inflammation caused by lupus can affect multiple organ systems such as the joint, skin, kidneys, blood cells, heart and lungs.
Respiratory Acidosis
Decreased PH Increased Pco2 - asthma, atelectasis, brain trauma, bronchioectasis, bronchitis, HYPOventelation, pneumonia, pulmonary edema, reparatory failure.
Closed-angle Glaucoma
obstruction to the outflow of aqueous humor resulting in increased intraocular pressure. Rapidly progressive visual impairment. Severe pain in and around the eye. Reduced central visual acuity. Blurred vision with dilated pupils. N/V
Open-angle Glaucoma
Slowly decreasing visual acuity. Usually bilateral, but one eye can be more affected. Halos around lights. Fluctuating intraocular pressure. Can be asymptomatic.
