nucleotide synthesis Flashcards
nucleotides are made up of
nitrogen base, 5 c sugar, phosphate group
pyrimidines
cytosine, uracil, thymine (one ring
CUT
purine
adenine, guanine (two rings)
sugar structure /(2)
always pentose, either ribose OR deoxyribose
check structure
nucleoside
vbase and sugar. base is added to c1 in b linkage
nucleoside base name change
cytidine, uridine,
thymidine, adenosine, guanosine
nucleotide
ADD PHOSPHATES to a nucleoside
- atp
nucleotide purpose 5
1) energy carrier and storage (atp, gtp)
2) activate compounds for metabolism (udp gucose)
3) allosteric effectors
4) components in cofacctors (nad, nadp)
5) in nucleic acids (rna, dna)
purine metabolism
cytoplasm
glucose 6 p - ribose 6 p - PrPP - invert - glycine - ring closure - imp
imp - amp - atp
imp - gmp - gtp
purines catabolism
broken down to uric acid, not very soluble
long pathway
gout
uric acid solubility - it crystalizes in serum and accumulates in joints.
treatment: allopurinol which competitively inhibits xanthine oxidase (so less uric acid made)
