Nucleic Acids And Heredity Flashcards
DNA and RNA are made of subunits what are they?
DNA (Deoxyribonnueclic acids) has Adenine, Guanine, cytosine, thymine bases. (AGCT)
Ribonucleuc Acid (RNA) adenine, guanine, cytosine and Uracil. A, G, C, U
Didfeeent between dna and rna?
DNA has thymine and RNA structure has Uracil . The sugar is ribose and dna has deoxyribose.
What does atp mean?
Adenosine Triphosphate. That’s the energy we use..
What are the building blocks of DNA?
They go together by attaching phosphate of one unit to the deoxyribose of the next unit by dehydration synthesis. Two strands are cooked in helix by the hydrogen binding of the Adenine, to thymine, and guanine to cystosine.
How Mandy chromosomes pairs does each somatic cell have?
The cells have 23 pairs of chromosomes. Written on the strands is genome - that genetic code that controls has and organism forms, maintains it sled and metabolizes. The human genome have about 20,000 protein coding genes. Every cells can be cloned it has the code to make a new us.
Structure of dna -
RNA is strictures like DNA, by linking phosphate to one unit of ribose sugar. But used uracil in place of thymine . It is 1000 times smaller than the DNA. And comes in a variety of shapes and sizes and has many different uses.
Where does dna transcription occur?
In the cytoplasm.
What does the DNA do first before rna comes in?
DNA creates a copy of a portion of itself into RNA , in order for gene to be expressed
The genetic code
The base sequence are called codons there are 64 codons. Start corn is AtG and AuG for Rna. Stop is for dna: TGA ,TAA, tag, andUGA UAA and UGA Rna.
