Lipid And Protien Flashcards

1
Q

What are lipids made up of? What is the common lipids form?

A

Lipids are made up of fatty acids and found in tissue. Proteins are important for structure - collagen (protein connective tissue skin and bones) . Enzymes are protein control and immediate reaction. They can’t form polymers, they are already big 12-18 carbons long. Glycerides are most common.

Q

How many different amino acids? And how many aminos acids take to make a protein?

A

21 amino acids . Can only bond to a straight chain. Poly peptides . Most proteins are made of 100-200 amino acids

Q

Protein function : list 3 types of protein and their function.

A

Fibrous proteins - connective tissues - skin and bone and nails and hair.

Globular proteins 1 such a albumin - maintaining internal homeostasis balance. Very important in blood .

Most important is enzymes a they act like chemical catalyst . They mediate chemical reactions.
