Q

What is human anatomy?

A

The study of structure is arranged by its level (hierarchy) organization

  • Gross Anatomy is the study by inspection –organs and major structures
  • Histology is the study of the tissues and cells that make up the organs
  • Cytology is the study of cell structure of particular cell types
  • Molecular Biology is the study of the molecules that make up the organism

Q

What is human physiology?

-

A

The Study of Function is arranged by the various sorts of function

  • Morphology is the study of shape related to function. “The heart is shaped as a pump.”
  • Embryology is the study of development. How organisms arise from primordial cells.
  • Biochemistry is the study of all chemical interactions in an organism.
  • Pathology is the study of how homeostasis is not maintained in an organism.

Q

Describe the chemical level of organization.
Describe the cellular level of organization
Describe the tissue level. What are the two components of tissues?
Describe the organ level.
Describe the organ systems level. The human body has how many organ systems? (Figure 1.5).
Make a list of the 11 organs systems, the organs that each system has, and the major functions associated with each system e.g.

Q

Positive feedback loops,

A

This mechanism is less common, reinforcing and magnifying the change rather than reversing it. The best example is the blood clotting mechanism. It is initiated by small blood elements called platelets that release their contents into the blood, producing a cascade effect that rapidly increases the size and rate of formation of the clot.
