Outcomes of Multiresistant vs non resistant GN infxn?
If you have multiresistant GN infxn, you are likely to have greater:
Mortality
Length of stay (LOS)
Cost
If you hear “spider bite” and they live in colorado, assume:
MRSA
- ask if they have seen the spider - uncommon
- Gram stain will show GPC
Why do gram - survive on surfaces for long periods of time?
They are used to living in soil and cold surfaces
If you enter a hospital room with VRE, likelyhood will be diagnosed with VRE?
8% acquired VRE during stay
Even if you dont touch a pt, can you still get an infection?
Yes
- environment is contaminated
- 42% can get glove contamination if pt contact
- 65% can get glove contamination if they have pt contact
For which organisms would you use droplet precautions on? Airborne?
