what bones and cartilage does the nasal cavity consist of?
Bones:
Nasal
Frontal process of maxillae
Nasal part of frontal bone and nasal spine
Cartilage:
2 lateral cartilage
2 alar cartilage
septal cartilage
what are the function of the nasal septum and its structure?
The function is to divide the nasal cavity into 2 parts.
Structure Consists of 3 parts:
Perpendicular plate of the ethmoid
Vomer - thin flat bone found posteriorly inferiorly
Septal cartilage, continuous inferiorly and anteriorly with the bony septum
what is the first section of the nasal cavity called?
Vestibules, which are lined with skin and stiff hair.
the mucous membrane is continuous with the line of all the chambers
what are the functions of the concha
the superior and middle conchea are considered part of the ethmoid bone, while the inferior is their own two bone.
Superior Concha:
Superior meatus
Opening for posterior ethmoidal sinuses
Middle Concha Middle meatus frontal sinus Maxillary sinuses Anterior cells (ethmoid) Middle cells (ethmoid)
Inferior Concha Nasolacrimal duct ( drains tears from lacrimal sac)
what are the Paranasal sinuses and how many are there?
They are air-filled cavities lined with mucous membrane.
