what are the 4 major sutures of the skull?
Coronal suture - between the frontal bone and the two parietal bone (runs left to right across skull)
Sagittal Suture - Between the two parietal bone (runs anterior too posterior)
Lambdoidal Suture - Between occiput and two parietal bones (back of head)
Temporal - Where the temporal meets the occiput and the parietal bone (behind the ear lateral posterior aspect of the head)
What are the 4 major boney landmarks?
Lambda - Junction of sagittal and lambdoidal sutures
- The pariatel bones & occipital bone
(back of head)
Bregma - Junction of the coronal and sagittal suture
- Frontal bone & parietal bone
(Top of head)
Pterion - Between the sphenoid, temporal, frontal and
parietal bone
(near top of ear)
Asterion - Junction of the parietal, temporal and
occipital bone. (looks like a star)
