Emergency medical care
A
- Position patient. Have patient lie on a firm surface with her knees drawn up and spread apart. Put sheet under butt.
- Even if there are no signs of hypoxia Or if SpO2 reading is 94% or greater. Still apply nasal cannula at 2-4 lpm
- Create sterile field around the vaginal opening if time permits
- Monitor patient for vomiting
- Continually assess for crowning
- Place gloved fingers on the bony part of the infants skull when it crowns
- Tear the amniotic sac if not already ruptured
- Determine the position of umbilical chord.
- Suction fluid from infants air way.
- Support newborn with two hands as infant is expelled
- Grasp the feet of the newborn.
12 dry wrap warm and position the infant. Auction if necessary - Partner monitor and complete initial care of newborn
- Clamp tie and cut umbilical cord as pulsation cease
- Observe for delivery of placenta
- Transport and deliver placenta
- Place 1-2 sanitary pads over vaginal opening
- Record the time of delivery and transport the mother, infant and placenta to hospital.
