Q

The heart

A

Consist of 4 chambers
Top two- left and right atria
Bottom two- left and right ventricles
The heart has only one purpose- to pump blood.

The right atrium receives deoxygenated blood from the inferior and superior venae cavae. Upon contraction blood is pumped from the right atrium through pulmic semilunar valve and into pulmonary arteries. Blood received oxygen in the alveoli of the lungs. Blood returns to left atrium via pulmonary veins. Upon contraction Blood ejected from left atrium through mitral valve and into left ventricle. On the next contraction the blood is ejected through the aortic semilunar valve and into aorta. Blood is then distributed to the body, cells and organs

Q

The vessels

A

The arteries carry oxygenated blood to the arteriole and then to the capillaries.
The veins carry deoxygenated blood from the capillaries, where the blood has picked up carbon dioxide and other waste products given off by cells through the venules, to the veins and back to the right ventricle through the inferior and superior vena cava.

Q

Blood

A

The blood is composed of several components that serve multiple functions for the body. The liquid portion of the blood serves as a transport medium for the formed elements.
Formed elements include red blood cellls, white blood cells and platelets

Red blood cells carry carry oxygen
White protects from infection
Platelets help in clothing to stop bleeding.

Thrombus clot that’s formed to stop bleeding

Coronary arteries are major arteries
