Abdominal organs
Stomach, spleen, liver, gallbladder, pancreas, small intestine and part of the large intestine are enclosed in the visceral peritoneum.
Kidneys, ureters, pancreas and abdominal aorta are in the retroperitoneal space.
Abdominal quadrants and regions
Left Upper Quadrant LUQ
Contains most of stomach and spleen and pancreas. Part of large intestine. The left kidney is behind ab lining
RUQ
Contains most of the liver the gallbladder and part of the large intestine. The right kidney is behind ab lining.
RLQ
Contains the appendix, part of the large intestine and female reproductive system
LLQ
Same as RLQ but no appendix
Ab structures
Hollow organs that contain substance that may leak into abdomin and harm if perforated or injured
Solid organs very vascular . Covered by fibrous capsule. Tends to bleed when injured leading to shock.
Vascular structures
Vena cava, large blood vessels
Abdominal pain
