What is Kinesics?
Study of body motions
Use of eye contact, facial expression, posture and gestures
What is the definition of Affect Displays?
A display of emotion: facial expressions and gestures that augment verbal expressions of feeling
What is proxemics?
Study of proximity
Informal study of what is around us at a particular time
Different zones indicating intimacy/ perceived closeness
What are the four types of gestures?
Emblems, illustrators, regulators and adaptors
What is the purpose of gestures?
Purpose: emphasise speech, show path/ direction, position, mimic or describe
What is the purpose of gesture: regulators?
Used to control or regulate the flow of conversation
Show them that you are still listening or need a minute
What are gesture adapators and what are some examples?
Used to relive tension
tapping, fiddling, pen clicking
What are five important aspects of interpersonal communication?
Proxemics, gestures, posture, interpersonal space and facial expressions
What is the influence of posture on interpersonal communication?
Demonstrates how we move displaying our emotions, attitudes and intentions
