Unstructured discussion to facilitate emotional expression, reflexion and reassurance. Used for stress, adjustment disorders, bereavement, mild depression and anxiety
What is the behavioural aspect of CBT?
Encourages positive behaviour with structured focus on what patient must change in their life and thoughts. Challenges behaviour in the hope that feelings follow
What is the cognitive aspect of CBT?
Identift automatic negative thoughts and core beliefs and work to replace them with postive helpful ones

Stepwise Exposure to allow habituation

Dialectal Behavioural Therapy:
Group and individual sessions for 1 year, mindfulness and counsellor available 24/7. Aims to target self harm and coping strategies
What does psychodynamic therapy involve?
Patient talks freely and therapist interprets this for many years. Transference and counter transference occur.
What is transference?
Patient re lives long standing emotions towards earlier stimuli but directed at therapist
What is Counter tranference?
Therapist experiences strong feelings towards patient

Electro Convulsive Therapy:
Induction of moderate cerebral seizure

Catatonia

Raised ICP
Recent stroke or MI
What are side effects of ECT?
