What is the acute management of alcoholism?
Chlordiazepoxide which breaks down into diazepam.
This replaces one GABA with another

What does Disulfiram do
Blocks alcohol metabolism, inducing acetyaldehyde accumulation and ‘flushing’ headache, nausea, anxiety

What does acamprosate do?
Acts on GABA to reduce cravings and thus risk of relapse
What does Naltrexone do?
Opioid receptor agonist similar to acamprosate. Usually used for opioids once off methadone.
