does adjuvant radiotherapy increase survival in stage I and II NSCLC patients?
no it is detrimental unless there is spread to mediastinal nodes or involves margins.
is neoadjuvant chemotherapy advantageous in stage III NSCLC?
yes
in patients with stage III NSCLC is survival rate better with just RT or with chemoRT?
with chemoRT
is stage IV NSCLC curable?
no
what is the treatment of stage IV NSCLC?
palliative treatment:
- RT to primary tumour
- systemic (chemo-) therapy is equally effective at relieving symptoms
how many cycles of chemotherapy are given to patients with stage III and IV chemotherapy?
3 cycles is as good 6, but 4 is the average in UK
what can cause bone pain in lung cancer?
bone mets
what is the palliative therapy for bone mets?
radiotherapy
orthopaedic surgery
neurosurgeons for cord compression

disease staged to one hemithorax
what is the treatment of choice for limited disease SCLC?
chemotherapy
or early thoracic RT
what is the management of extensive disease SCLC?
4 cycles of combination chemotherapy
