Non experimental design Flashcards
when is a non-experimental design used
when a phenomena or variable cannot be studied using an experimental design
survey
Descriptive, exploratory, comparative
what does a survey collect?
characteristics of a population, situation, phenomena, frequency of an occurrence, differences between variables (comparison)
relationship/difference types
correlation and developmental
correlation
evaluates relationship between variables. Direct relationship can be determined but not causation
developmental types
cross sectional, cohort, case control
cross sectional
data examined at one point in time from a group of subjects
cohort (longitudinal)
data collected from the same group over a period of time
case control, retrospective, ex post facto
independent variable has occurred in the past
methodological research
develop and evaluate data collection methods or instruments, focus is on how data are collected
secondary analysis
data that was originally collected and analyzed for one study is re-analyzed for a second study
mixed methods
qualitative and quantitative data are collected
