Non Disjunction Flashcards
What is nondisjunction
Occurs when homologous chromosomes dokt seperate during anaphase 1 or sister chromatids do not seperate during anaphase 2. Can end up with too much or too little genetic info
Trisomy
A zygote contains 47 chrimosomes. Eg Klinefelter syndrome = xxy
Monosomy
Zygote contains 45 chromosomes . Eg turner syndrome- female only has one X chromosome
Karyotype
Picture of chromosomes arranged in homologous pairs in descending order by size, with sex chromosome placed last. ( nondisjunctioning can be identified through karyotyping )
Prenatal testing
Used to detect small- scale mutations of chromosomal alterations in a fetus
Amniocentesis
Cells in the amniotic fluid are tested. Chorionic villus sampling: chorionic villi are tested
