Nodules and Discharging Sinuses Flashcards
Define nodule
A circumscribed, solid elevation >1 cm in diameter
that usually extends into the deeper layers of the skin
including the dermis, the panniculus and sometimes
the muscle
Define tumour
A large mass that may involve any part of the skin or

a tract between the epidermis surface and deeper
tissues - can also be seen with cat bite abscesses
Define papule
A small solid elevation of the skin <1 cm in diameter,
involving a cellular infiltrate into the epidermis and
dermis
