- play is based off the honchō hokke reigenki; slightly altered version: woman is a girl who has been lead astray by her father. even itself is though to have happened in 929 CE

Nō theatre vs. Kabuki theatre
A
- nō is older with an aristocratic audience while kabuki is popular entertainment with regular audience
- Nō actors where masks while kabuki actors use dramatic and exaggerated make up
- Kabuki was considered the more modern theatre (17th century). but now we would consider it traditional and old
