Newtons Laws, Vectors and Gravitation Flashcards
Vectors
Magnitude and direc
Resultant
Single vector same effect as multiple vectors
Equilibrium
State or condition of a system where all forces acting on system produce a zero resultant
Normal Force
Force or component of force which a surface exerts on an object with which it is in contact and perpendicular to surface
Ff
Force that opposes motion acts parallel to surface
Static ff
Force opposes tendency of motion of stationary object relative to a surface
Kinetic ff
Force opposes motion of moving object relative to surface
Inertia
Property of body causing it to resist change in its state of rest or constant velocity
Newtons 1
A body ta rest or constant velocity will remain at rest or const vel unless acted upon by net force
Newtons 2
When net force acts on body, body will accelerate in direction of net force. a directly prop to the force and inversely prop to mass of body
Newtons 3
When body A exerts a force on body B, body B exerts a force equal in magnitude and opposite in direction on body A
Universal gravitation
Every body in the universe is attracted to every other body with a force that is direc prop to product of masses of bodies and inversely prop to square of distance between their centres
Lift at rest or constant vel
Fnet=0 so force of scale is mg
Upward acceleration
Force of scale = mg+ma which is greater than weight. If it is slowing down then a is negative if it is speeding up a is positive
Downward acceleration
Force of scale = mg -ma so less than weight. If it is slowing down then a is negative if it is speeding up a is positive
