Newtons 1st and 2nd Flashcards
Newton 1st law says
Resultant force is needed to make something, start moving, speed up, or slow down
1st law
“If no resultant force acts, an object will remain stationary or move with a constant speed in a straight line.”
Circular motion and 1st law
if object is travelling in circular orbit, it is constantly changing direction, so it is changing velocity, and is accelerating.
1st law states there should be a resultant force acting on it, this keeps it in the middle, this is called centripetal force.
acceleration is proportional to resultant
acceleration is proportional to resultant force.
larger resultant force, more object accelerates.
acceleration is inverse proportional to mass
object with large mass will accelerate less .
2nd law
f(resultant force N)=m (mass kg) X a (acceleration m/s)
