Newton's Laws Flashcards
Newton’s First Law
An object will continue in its state of motion unless compelled to change by a force impressed upon it
Newton’s Second Law
Acceleration is produced when a force acts on a mass
Newton’s Third Law
2 objects must interact for a force to exist; for every action there is an equal opposite reaction
Law of Gravitation
Any 2 objects in the universe exert an attractive force on each other
Weight
Gravitational force exerted on an object by Earth
Changes with location
Normal force
The component of contact force that’s perpendicular to the surface
Friction force
Component of contact force that’s parallel to the surface
Static friction
When pushing an object
It’s the force that act on an object to cancel out initial pushes
Kinetic friction
Force that acts on object as it slides across a floor
Coefficient of friction
The nature of the surface, the greater this number is, the stronger the friction will be
Pulleys
Devices that change the direction of tension force in cords that slide over them
