Tests performed on the infant to screen for health
Guthrie test (PKU), Blood & Urine for galactose, Thyroxine measurement, Cytologic studies
S&S of respiratory distress
Nasal Flaring, Dyspnea, Restlessness, cyanosis, pulmonary edema, respiratory arrest, retractions, grunting, labored breathing
APGAR Heart Rate - 1
HR below 100
APGAR Heart Rate - 2
HR Above 100
APGAR Respiratory Effort - 1
Weak, irregular, or gasping
APGAR Respiratory effort - 2
Good, Crying
APGAR Muscle Tone - 1
Some flexion of arms or legs
APGAR Muscle Tone - 2
Well flexed, or active movements of the extremities
APGAR Reflex/Irritability - 1
Grimace or weak cry
APGAR Reflex/Irritability - 2
Good Cry
APGAR Color - 1
Body Pink, Hands and Feet blue
APGAR color - 2
Pink all over
Amniocentesis - chromosomes can detect what?
Trisomy 21 (down’s syndrome) trisomy 13, 18, Fragile x, Rare and inherited disorders, and neural tube defects
BP changes in the mother during pregnancy
5-10 mm/Hg of both Sys/Dia in the second trimester
HR changes in the mother during pregnancy
10-15 BPM after 20 weeks
