New York: Basic Facts
- Population: 8,4 milions citizens (most populous city in United States)
- Area: 738 km2
- Mayor: Bill de Blasio
- City Boroughs: the Bronx, Brooklyn, Mannhattan, Queens, Staten Island
New York: History
- A territory of the Indian tribes (the tribe Lenape)
- 1524 - territory was discovered by Giovanni de Verrazzano
- 1614 – The Dutch fouded New Amsterdam
- 1664 – The English conquered the area and renamed it New York. Today the original conquered area is the location of the Bronx (borough)
- 1776 – Battle of Long Island (the first battle of the American Revolution after the US declared independence on July 4th of that year)
- 1785 – 1790 – Capital of the United States
- 1857 – Establishment of Central Park
- 1886 – Statue of Liberty was finished
- 1904 – first subway in New York
- September 11. 2001 – World Trade Center destroyed in terrorist attack (normally called “nine eleven”). 2,977 people died in the attack, and more later from complications.

- Biggest population of the five boroughs of NYC
- It’s an island surrounded by the Hudson, East, and Harlem Rivers
- One of the original counties of the US state of New York

A borough that includes Brooklyn Bridge, Coney Island – amusement park, Brooklyn museum and New York Aquarium

Central Park

- The park was opened in 1859
- designed by F.L. Olmsted because he felt the city was too busy and unfriendly

- Architect: Hanna/Olin and Hardy Holzman Pfeiffer Associates
- A lot of sculptures
- In winter people can skate there
