strenghts
-the rate of family breakdown is much lower amongst married couples
- children from broken home are almost 5 times more likely to develop emotinal and behaviour problems and agresive
- lone parent families are more then twice as likely to ;ive in poverty as 2-parent households.
- children from broken home are 9 times more likely to become yog offendors

weaknesses
- they exaggerate the decline in nuclear familys- most aults still maryy and have children - most children are reares by both parents - most mrriges last until death - divorce has increased but so has remarrying
- feminsm - gender roles are socially determied rather than being fixed on biology - traditional gender roles are oppresive on women
- feminism - divorce being easier is good because iwthout it many women will remai in abusive relationship
- most lone parent fa,ilys are not benfit scroungers - tehy wantto work and be independant
chester argues the new right exaggerates the extent of cohabitation and sigle parent fa,ilies- most children still spend most of their lives in a nuclear family arrangment.
