Most are cults
Do not tolerate other religions

What is world accommodating movement?
Usually demonstration across mainstream churches
-not happy with current state of world wish to make most of situation to achieve salvation.
-movements on improving lives of followers while tills conforming to operate.
- attract people in societal change.
Example pentalcostalism
What is world rejecting movements?
Majority are sects
-demeaned social change
-do not accept current state of the world
-members leave old olives behind and create new identities.
-understanding ogre god
Example monies there are unification of church.
What is evaluation of new religious movements
Niebuhr- believes that sects are short lived that they rarely last longer than a generation or different reasons.
-movement loses momentum once leader dies
-children’s of the sects members do not have same intensity of beliefs as parents a it dies in second generation.

What are the three reasons growth of NRM
Marginalisation- max wevber claimed nrm tend to attract individuals who do not belong to majority of communities in religion. Tend to have theodicies of disprivilledge .
Relative deprivation - barker- tend of young middle class people attracted to nrm such as monies. Middle class feel restricted and emotionally deprived suffer from relative deprivation.
Social change- Wilson- rapid social change individuals are feel sense of anomie, confusion
