What does Max Weber argue about Calvinism?
Max Weber argues that religion can help bring about change as well as encouraging social stability. Religion can act as an ideology.

Calvin preached that God has already chosen who would enter his Kingdom. His decision is unchangeable.

According to Calvinism faith, no individual would have the power to know God and predict his wishes.

Calvin preached that the followers if Calvinism should not be materialistic and instead save and invest to businesses to glorify God.

Calvinists believe only way to be devoted to God is to devote themselves to the hard work in order to meet salvation

They come across the ‘salvation panic’ if they don’t meet Gods elect.

Calvinists prior to their devoted hard work and investment, Weber Argued they served capitalism and created change as known as ‘spirit of capitalism’.
Who criticises max webers view?
Karl Kautsky- argues modern capitalism existed before the emergence of Calvinists belief system. Eventually Calvinists would die out as it they are a small subgroup to the rest of wider religion. Katusky argues capitalism existed and would overthrow due to bourgeoise.
